- Operators of Mobile
Elevated Working Platforms (scissors) will be able to identify the basic
construction, purpose and function of components and the purpose and use
of all controls and gauges.
- Identify and comply
with manufacturers' instructions in accordance with the operator's handbook,
other information sources and applicable legislation.
- Understand relevant
legislation, including H.A.S.A.W.A 1974, L.O.L.E.R 1998, P.U.W.E.R 1998 & Working
at Height Regs 2005, or local requirements and standards.
- Explain all relevant
documentation.
- Explain all displayed
information on the machine.
- Fully understand
which type of body harness to wear and why.
- Carry out pre-use
checks of body harness.
- Carry out pre-use
and running checks.
- Carry out emergency
lowering procedures.
- Operate controls
from ground level and from within the working platform.
- Manoeuvre the MEWP
involving tight turns and limited access, using both forward and reverse
motions.
- Position the platform
up to maximum working height.
- Keep within safe
working parameters.
- Place the machine
in and out of service condition.
- Be able to explain
the loading and unloading procedure on and off a transporter.
Achievement and Certification:
On successful completion of the training the operator will be issued with an
Accredited ID Card from the UK awarding body National Plant Operators Registration
Scheme (NPORS) or issued with an in-house certificate. The Instructor/Examiner
will be a registered Instructor/Examiner with one of the UK HSE Approved Awarding
bodies.
Course duration and recommended trainee numbers:
Training course will usual be conducted over a 2 day period, the durations
can vary depending on the trainees experience and knowledge. The numbers of
trainees conducting the training course is usually kept to the UK standards,
this is recommended to a maximum of 4 trainees per training session.
